Not Gonna Happen
I was cleaning out my bedroom closet this morning, and I found a bunch of clothing that I had every intention of sewing, hemming, and repairing when I had the time. We've been in our new home for 12 months now, and since I am a firm believer of 'if it hasn't been missed it won't be', I've decided to toss these things out. Since I love the idea of sewing, I try to hold onto the future goal of taking it up again once my kids no longer need me. That could be a cruel joke....but let's think positive. Some day I will sew again, but for now, I just get to buy new things more often.

Your Grandma, at her death, had several pairs of ladies "dainties" stashed away in her chest of drawers. Your Aunt Betty guesstimated that they were all from about the 1940's, and were, indeed, in need of simple repair - ie, a stitch here, a clasp there, a buckle needing bending back in shape...
ReplyDeleteKeeping broken things that need fixing is in your blood. You get it from your father's side (that's why men in general love garages - it holds man-junk) and from your mother's side. (That's why women in general have closets and hampers and cupboards and shelves - to hold fix-it-one-days.)
By the way, trust me, as soon as you throw them out, you'll miss them That's why I still have my teddy bear from 57 years ago. My mother kept it safely stashed away until I got married - then gave it back to me. She needed the room in her closet to save some stuff she was keeping to fix for herself - when the time came.
Haha, yes I know, but at about 15 years old I looked at my bedroom closet filled with Christmas/Birthday/Special Occasion cards, clothes that needed repair, odds and ends and I realized that although these things could be useful, in case of a fire I wouldn't save any of it. Hence my ability to toss without care or concern.
ReplyDeleteI hope you will that Teddy to someone who will Love him.
I still have my Lamby... she's going to be buried with me. :)
