Changes

Today started out pretty good.

I was woken by the usual pile-driver to the belly as multiple kids happily brought me out of a deep, healing, fantastic, whimsical sleep.

Ah, sleep.

Then, once I dragged my heavily laden body out of bed, kids fought over my legs, and on trying my hardest, I had to holler that mommy can't drag 5 kids and get to the bathroom before mommy's bladder realizes it's full, in time, so they needed to un-attach themselves from my ankles so I could run!

I made pancakes, while holding a W, who is teething, and suffering from a cold, and in a chronic bad mood. Getting the kids eating, and not fighting over who gets what pancake is quite the accomplishment. Through trial and error I'm pretty good at making them all the same.

Finally, they were settled, I got my coffee and relaxed at the computer.

My dear Husband was on the email chat, so I happily typed away talking to him while the kids did their various chores, before we started school. Before I knew it, the noise level decreased substantially.

With five kids this could mean a disaster.

I said goodbye to my hearts desire, and went to investigate.

S, M and W decided to play Barber.

W got the worst of it.

I can understand how some people claim to black out.

I think I did that.

Thankfully no one was murdered.

I have been letting W's hair grow into long, white-blonde ringlets because he's my baby, the youngest and our last one. And because his hair is too darn cute!! I usually give the children their first haircut by now, but I was reluctant with W.

S and M made up my mind for me.

After a long cry, a quick email to my hubby so that he'd understand why I'd be in a mediocre mood once he arrived home, I set to work to try to salvage the heads of hair.

Two buzz cuts later, I got to W.

I couldn't buzz him.

My hands shook and the tears started again.

I know it's ridiculous, because hair has the tendency to grow back, but I wasn't prepared for this.

Not today.

I got creative, and tried a bowl cut. Or similar to one anyway.

Suffice to say you'll have to stay tuned for the pictures.

My husband knows how to do all the photo from camera to computer.

And the kids are quiet again.

  3. Awwwww. His curls were the absolute best!

The hair will grow again. Sadly, it won't be the baby-fine hair perhaps, but it will still be beautiful.

YOU were the one who cut chunks out of hair when you were little. 'Nuff said. :D

  4. I hardly doubt any of my kids will actually choose cutting hair as a career. :P
