I'm not feeling original today, hence the reference stolen from one of my favorite movies of days gone by.
Thinking about a witty title to sum up the outing I had yesterday with my family seemed too time consuming.
Sitting at this computer typing my thoughts for your reading amusement is time consuming.
But,
it's either here, or in a notebook.
Since paper can fade, wrinkle, yellow, tear, or be tossed in a fervent attempt at de-cluttering this seems more practical.
I am searching for a new dessert to make for Easter anyway.
I went to the Childrens' Museum in Kitchener with my mother, her youngest 3, my sister and her 4, my sister, her husband and their 5, and another sister, the 'oldest' young woman still living at home.
Since my mom has a 15 passenger van, she drove most of us.
Sister #1's husband drove them in their van with a few extra.
Stewart's best friend is my sisters youngest boy, and they talked non-stop.
I'm sure it was entertaining.
An hour and a coffee-stop later we made it!
The exhibit was:
Our Bodies, The Universe Within.
Some of us have been studying the human body, and some of us are going to start. I found it a great platform to jump-start my oldest two to be interested in furthering our biology knowledge.
Of course my boys thought it was the coolest display ever. And gross. And a little sad.
Everyone had a little different spin on the whole exhibit.
What an incredible experience! I found it quite fascinating.
The whole time I was walking through, explaining to random kids who happened to be near me at the time, a few verses were going through my mind.
Ephesians 4:15-16 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.
Looking at the human parts in such detail, considering that these people walked, talked, learned, played, loved, it made me feel quite honored that they gave their bodies to be used as tools for teaching.
And,
that in sin,
we are ALL DEAD.
Like those bodies in the exhibit.
We are on display in some way or another.
And if we don't seek Christ and the gift of salvation from him we are dead.
Ephesians 2:1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins
I look at my children, my neighbors, my family, my church, my friends.
I wonder what kind of display I'm putting on for them.
What are they learning when they look at me?
I take comfort in the fact that God is in control, and that he causes all to happen for his kingdom, purpose and glory.
I really found the display amazing, and very informative.
If you aren't too sensitive, and can look past the fact that these were people, I suggest you attend.

Interesting perspective, Rachel.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
The whole people weren't so bad for me.
ReplyDeleteIt was the severed limbs that bothered me. Don't know why.
Great take on the whole experience. :)
Neat perspective..
ReplyDeleteI found it equally fascinating and disturbing.
