Everyone I know has one.
Everyone in the world has a way to commmunicate to everyone else anywhere anytime but me. I bet you even people in remote areas who still hunt with sticks have one just in case, as long as there's a tower within range.
Yes. I am one of those who have yet to purchase a portable talking, text-ting, music, picture recording devise.
My husband had one, but after meeting me and realizing that his hours and hours of talking on it to me were better spent in person, not to mention cheaper to have a land line, he got rid of it and we've never looked back since.
I like being told I have to wait because this little machine is "roaming." Really. I dig that. If you know me you'd see the elaborate attempt at a joke, and whatever beverage you were drinking is probably choking you up.
Don't get me wrong. I understand why they're needed. I get why they're so handy. My husband also tells me that we'll probably purchase one at some point so that we can communicate while one of us is away. I don't see the point in this because:
A. We have one vehicle so that if he's stranded somewhere he's not going to be calling me for help.
B. My spouse loves me, and can't stand not talking to me for any given amount of time so we'd be paying a hefty bill every month.
C. We are usually traveling together.
And now I'll get to the real reason why.
I like to see inside strangers homes. A glimpse into what other peoples tastes in decor are like. It's creepy, I know. But I am naturally nosy. I like to study people and their behavior. I think I get that from my dad. I've never made any lasting friendships in these chance meetings with people, but who says it won't happen?
I have been stranded many times in my young life. I remember incidents with my parents, my friends and myself. I have no problem flagging someone down or walking to the nearest house. In fact, I love knocking on peoples doors and asking to use their phone because they've always have the most perplexed expression on their face when they open the door to me, expecting someone totally different. I'm always amazed at people when you say, "Can I use your phone?" And they immediately comply.
There is no questions.
No hesitation.
Sometimes I didn't even have to use the phone, I just needed to get a jug of water from a generous person so my car would make it to the garage down the road.
If I had a cell phone, that person wouldn't get the good feeling of helping someone that day.
Maybe I should bend a little bit. It does irk me that my mother knows how to send text, music, photos and video on her phone, and I wouldn't know how to simply turn it on.
That reminds me. I never turned mine off. No wonder it's always dying on me. ;)
ReplyDeleteI like your background, but the words need to be a lighter colour! Can't see them! :P
ReplyDeleteTotally know what you mean about the cell phone. I'll be with Mom in her car, her phone will start ringing and she'll say "Answer it!" and I'm all like "HOW?!"
